Man beat his pregnant wife with cooking pot and knives

A Congolese man who beat his heavily pregnant wife with a cooking pot, a pan, plates, glasses and knives in front of their four children was given a three-year sentence yesterday.

Architecture student DeOlive Muteba, aged 41, of 143 Ard Alainn, Ballybane, Co Galway, appeared before Galway Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning the woman at a house in Ros Aitinn, Clybaun Rd, Upper Knocknacarra, Galway, on Mar 14, 2011, and to assaulting her, causing her harm, on the same date.

Gardaí received a call from a concerned neighbour who told them when they arrived outside Muteba’s house that he was killing his wife inside.
