Shatter: Planned action threatens Garda structure

Justice Minister Alan Shatter has provoked fresh anger among rank-and-file gardaí after he claimed their planned industrial action threatened the “command structure” of the force.

With the phased action due to begin on Friday, attention now turns to a crisis meeting between Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan and leaders of the Garda Representative Association on Wednesday.

Mr Shatter said “expressions of anger” and “motions of condemnation” by the GRA were no substitute for rational engagement through the Croke Park talks.
