Labour’s deputy leader has signalled that the Irish people must benefit from the proceeds of the promissory note deal this year with an injection of funds into the economy.

The comments from Social Protection Minister Joan Burton suggests she wants proceeds from the bank debt deal used to diminish any further pain in the next budget.

Speaking in the Dáil yesterday during a debate on the Anglo deal, she said: “We have to use the proceeds from the promissory note deal to invest in our people and our economy — and we need to do so starting this year.”
