Almost 100 people have taken their own lives on the country’s railway lines since 2000.

96 people have taken their lives on Irish rail lines since 2000

The figures, revealed by Transport Minister Leo Varadkar in response to a parliamentary question, show that, between 2000 and 2011, 96 people died by suicide on the Irish rail system.

In 2001 and 2004, the number of deaths reached 11. The figures were provided to the minister by the Railway Safety Commission.
