Manufacturer to install revised regime of testing

The burger manufacturing firm at the centre of the horse meat contamination controversy yesterday said it was installing a new testing regime for meat products which will include DNA analysis.

ABP Food Group, of which Silvercrest is a part, said in a statement it had “never knowingly bought, handled, or supplied equine meat products”.

Apologising for “the understandable concern this issue has caused” and admitting to being shocked by the test results which showed contamination, the statement read: “[We] are currently at a loss to explain why one test showed 29% equine DNA.
