Tesco Ireland said last night it will not take any more stock from the Co Monaghan factory which produced the burgers until it learns how the horse meat got into the burgers.

Tesco’s Everyday Value burgers were found to contain 29% horse meat while traces of horse meat were also found in Tesco beef quarter pounders and in Flamehouse Chargrilled Quarter Pounders.

A spokesman for the company said they withdrew all Silvercrest products immediately on learning of the FSAI findings.
