A psychiatric report is to be prepared on a former Fianna Fáil councillor before he is sentenced for being drunk and a danger; being threatening abusive or insulting; and carrying a knife.

Judge wants psych report on ex-FF councillor

Gary O’Flynn of Hayfield Drive, Castle Court, Whitechurch, Co Cork, had denied all three charges but was convicted after a trial last month. Judge Olann Kelleher had adjourned sentencing until yesterday.

But as soon as the case was called and O’Flynn’s barrister, Ray Boland, rose to address the court, Judge Kelleher had this to say: “Before you address me, I am concerned about one thing — I have gone over all my notes of the trial and I am not satisfied to go ahead without some psychiatric report. I am genuinely concerned about the manner in which he gave evidence and the manner in which he answered questions.”
