The Government will today be told to agree to an independent public inquiry into Savita Halappanavar’s death by Thursday or face a European court battle.

The deadline will be given to Health Minister Dr James Reilly. Praveen Halappanavar’s solicitor, Gerard O’Donnell, told the Irish Examiner last night the move will be made to stop Government “pushing the boat out” on the inquiry issue.

He said his client has consistently sought the inquiry as he has “no faith” in the HSE investigation.
