Two separate investigations into fatal car crash

Two separate investigations have been launched into a fatal car crash which took the life of a 32-year-old woman, but spared her 3-year-old niece.

Two separate investigations into fatal car crash

Bus Éireann confirmed late last night that it had opened a second inquiry into what happened, in addition to the Garda investigation.

The crash, which occurred at 6.10pm near Navan on the busy N3 road between Cavan and Dublin City, involved the car and a double-decker Bus Éireann vehicle carrying 53 people.

Just 10 of these passengers needed to be taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda in addition to the bus driver.

However, while the little girl travelling in the car survived with minor injuries, her 32-year-old aunt — from Rathkenny in Co Meath — lost her life.

It is as yet unclear what exactly happened to cause the crash. However, it has been suggested that one of the vehicles involved was travelling on the wrong side of the road.
