Celebrities declutter to help fundraiser

Celebrities are decluttering theirhomes to help Cork’s biggest spring clean fundraiser.

TV chefs Rachel Allen and Martin Shanahan, former Munster rugby great Mick O’Driscoll, and paralympian Orla Barry are among a host of personalities who have agreed to spring-clean their homes and donate rugby jerseys, cooking utensils and other personal and treasured items to Norma Smurfit’s popular Spring Clean for Charity event in two weeks.

Last year’s event raised over €50,000 for Cork charities.

This year’s event, which takes place in Cork’s City Hall on Sunday, Oct 14, will benefit Enable Ireland and Cheshire Ireland.

“This is a great excuse to declutter your homes and business, while raising money for two very worthy Cork charities,” said Ms Smurfit.

“We want as many groups, organisations and individuals to join us, whether you take a stall or just come along on the day and join in the fun, rummaging through all the hidden treasures and trinkets on sale.”

Edel Meade, the fundraising co-ordinator at Enable Ireland Cork, said they are delighted to be chosen as a beneficiary.

“I’ve already seen some amazing stock donations. There’ll definitely be some hidden treasures and bargains to be found,” she said.

She also appealed for volunteers, especially sporting clubs or scouts, to help set up the sale the day before, and clear out City Hall the day after.

You can donate items in saleable condition to a drop-off point at William O’Brien Public Storage in Bishopstown.

Entry to the event is €5 at the door, with free admission to children under 12.
