Saga over access to green space an ‘emotional case’

Legal submissions in a saga surrounding rights to a field in the middle of a Cork suburb will be made on Monday, as the presiding judge acknowledged yesterday it was a highly emotional case for all parties.

Residents in Mayfield and Montenotte have initiated court proceedings to assert their right to the use of land, known as the Tank Field, for a “saunter and wander”.

The action came as Cork City Council was about to proceed with selling two acres of the site to Gaelscoil An Ghoirt Alainn for the building of a new school which has planning permission.
