A planned shellfish farm in West Cork, given the thumbs up by the Department of Agriculture, has been rejected by the Aquaculture Licensing Appeals Board.

Last December Simon Coveney, the marine minister, approved a foreshore and aquaculture licence to Dunmanus Bay Mussels Ltd for a new long-line mussel farm in the bay.

Locals appealed the decision under sections 40 and 41 of the Fisheries Act.
