Gardaí open murder probe into 92-year-old’s death

The death of a 92-year-old pensioner in Co Limerick almost three years ago has been upgraded to a murder inquiry.

Gardaí open murder probe into 92-year-old’s death

The body of James Mulqueen was discovered at his home at Kilmakeara, Kilcolma, on Oct 23, 2009, after neighbours in the close-knit community noticed he had not left his house to collect his pension as was customary.

It was initially thought his death was due to natural causes. However, after an autopsy revealed some broken bones, gardaí began treating the death as suspicious.

The Garda Serious Crime Unit reviewed the case last month, and officers now believe Mr Mulqueen was murdered.

A reconstruction of the events surrounding his death will be broadcast next Tuesday on RTÉ’s CrimeCall programme.

“Some people do know what happened,” said a Garda spokesman.

“We are hoping that somebody out there has information that hasn’t been revealed to us and they may reconsider coming forward.”

Anybody with information on the case is asked to call 1800 405060.
