Fancy a part-time job where you get to prance around the place scaring the living bejaysus out of people?

Have you got the scare factor?

Due to the huge popularity of its scare house last year, Cork’s Nightmare Realm is looking to recruit an increased number of “creative and outgoing people” to join their cast of creepy characters.

Last year, there was such interest in the haunted house that the queues snaked all along Albert Quay in Cork city.

“We’ll train you in the art of psychological scare tactics and you will be transformed by a team of professional make-up artists using professional masks, costumes, makeup, and prosthetics,” says the show’s producer, Ken Tobin.

Recruitment day is this Thursday, Sep 20, from 5pm-7pm at Albert Quay. Anyone aged 16 years or over and who has not already auditioned can attend. All shapes and sizes are welcome.

“The only criteria is that you are willing to act the part and are up for scaring the wits out of terrified visitors,” says Ken.

Application forms are available for download in advance from the Nightmare Realm website and Facebook page and will be available to fill in on the recruitment evening.

“On arrival you will have a short audition, whereby you will be asked to act out a task,” says Ken. “Act like a zombie chicken, imagine you are a werewolf turning back into your human form, laugh like a mad scientist, pretend you are a vampire thirsty for blood, but you are afraid of blood. These are just a selection of the weird and wacky acting tasks that you may face.”

The Nightmare Realm has been established in Tralee since 2009 and Cork since 2011 and has attracted more than 50,000 visitors. Each year, the event is changed so nothing is the same.

Tickets to The Nightmare Realm start from €12 for adults and €10 for students and are available at www.thenightmarerealm.ie. This event is strictly for over-13s.
