Hearing aid firm ceases trading in city after series of complaints

A hearing aid company which has been criticised for targeting and ‘hard selling’ to elderly people in their homes has ceased trading in the Cork area.

The charity group Friends of the Elderly say they had received “a catalogue of complaints” about the company which initially contacts elderly people under the guise of doing market research and then if the research shows they need a hearing aid, offers to call to their home to complete a free audiology test.

Numerous relatives have expressed unease about parents living alone being targeted by hard-selling salespeople from Hearing at Home.
