No family at inquest of man who lay dead for months

Nobody attended the recent inquest of Alan Moore, who was found dead after three months in his home earlier this year.

Mr Moore died aged 61 of a heart attack at his home at 53 Lower John St, Wexford, on a date unknown, but believed to be around Dec 28, 2011.

His remains were found on Mar 18 after a woman saw Christmas tree lights and flies around the entrance to the house while looking through his front window.

Speaking at the inquest into Mr Moore’s death recently in front of rows of empty seats, in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford, Garda Emma Duane said she called to the house and knocked on the front door but nobody answered. Following enquiries, she discovered that nobody knew the name of the man who lived there.

She said she tried to unlock the door but there was a latch on it. Having located a key, she entered the house at 7pm where she found Mr Moore’s body in a very decomposed condition.

Garda Duane called Dr Stephen Bowe, who told her Mr Moore was a patient of his. He said he had last seen him in Dec 2011. Dr Bowe pronounced Mr Moore dead at the scene.

Mr Moore was from Salford, Manchester, and had been living in the house since 2002. Garda Duane said his family was located using Interpol and UK newspapers. She said they were notified of his death and about the inquest, but were unable to attend.

County Coroner Dr Sean Nixon said Mr Moore had very little contact with his family or people living near him.
