When Paddy and Maria Cahill’s little baby died, they were stunned, shocked, and devastated. Nothing had prepared them for it. All seemed perfect when Maria gave birth on Feb 19 to Martha but within hours things started to go terribly wrong.

“It became very clear very quickly that Martha was struggling to breathe after she was born,” says Paddy, in a moving account of the couple’s experience.

After extraordinary efforts by the medical staff in Kilkenny and the National Maternity Hospital in Dublin’s Holles St, Martha lost her fight 27 hours after she was born.
