HSE refuses to review hospital absenteeism

The HSE has refused a request by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation to carry out an external review into the high absenteeism rates at Ennis General Hospital.

Industrial relations officer with the nurses’ union, Mary Fogarty, said her union made the request as figures from the HSE’s internal reporting system showed that Ennis has the worst absenteeism figures in the country.

The Healthstat figures show that Ennis General had the worst absenteeism rate amongst the 28 hospitals evaluated for the second month running in June.
