Aldi has seen its market share increase by 25% as the surge in cash-strapped consumers through the doors of discount retailers continues to grow.

Drive to spend less sees Aldi’s market share rise by 25%

In the 12 weeks to Aug 7, 2011, Aldi and Lidl together accounted for 11% of the total grocery market. In the corresponding period this year they had 12.4%. Aldi’s share had risen from 4.5% to 5.7%, a 25.2% increase.

The drive to spend less has meant that overall, the Irish grocery market has fallen by 0.9% over the past year.
