BBC1 quiz for Mrs Brown
Agnes Brown, Brendan O’Carroll’s alter ego from his sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys, will take to British screens in 2013 in Mrs Brown’s Celebrities.
The show will see two contestants compete against each other in a quiz aided by five celebrities, with O’Carroll’s character Mrs Brown acting as quizmaster.
A 40-minute non-broadcast pilot is currently being filmed, and a full series is expected in 2013.
Earlier this year, Mrs Brown’s Boys won a BAFTA for best sitcom.
Originating on BBC One, RTÉ also broadcasts the show. More than 772,000 people switched on to RTÉ One to watch the most recent series of Mrs Brown’s Boys, with an average audience share of 46%, or half of people watching television at the time watching the show.
O’Carroll said he is excited at the prospect of Mrs Brown’s role as quizmaster. “It will be fun to see how Mrs Brown copes with a quiz, as she knows as much about trivia as my backside knows about snipe shooting,” he said. “A new adventure, and Mrs Brown is always up for a new adventure. It is great to be part of the BBC One family.”
