House prices slide by over 1% in June

Hopes of a resurgence in house prices have been dashed with the latest figures from the CSO showing values nationally dropped by more than 1% last month.

An albeit small increase of 0.2% in the cost of homes in May marked the first increase since Sept 2007 and came after the Central Bank and ESRI suggested the housing market may be close to the bottom.

At that point, they said there were signs of “pent-up demand” among under-35s seeking to buy a family home.
