Concern grows over home grants

More than 500 elderly or disabled people could be left in limbo in Co Cork if the Government does not quickly approve funding to make their homes more mobility-friendly.

The warning has come from Cork county manager Martin Riordan and a number of councillors following the publication of a report outlining the crisis facing the local authority.

Mr Riordan said far from being slow in processing claims, council staff were so efficient they had been victims of their own success.
