Almost 30% of inmates reject chance of parole

Record numbers of serious offenders are turning down opportunities for parole.

The unusual development has prompted the Parole Board to set itself a priority to “incentivise” inmates to take part in the parole process.

Inmates serving sentences of eight years or more are entitled to be considered for parole.
