500 RTÉ staff take redundancy package

Up to 500 people have left RTÉ since it started its redundancy packages three years ago.

The national broadcaster is expected to notify staff in the coming days of who has been successful in the latest round of a voluntary redundancy and early retirement scheme which received a last minute surge of applications last month.

The latest scheme was oversubscribed by up to 50 people, with this round allowing 200 to leave. 190 staff left in the last scheme.
