Wallace expected to face Dáil rap

Independent TD Mick Wallace is expected to face a Dáil motion of censure after he repeatedly refused to hand over information on his €2.1m Revenue settlement to an Oireachtas watchdog.

Wallace expected to face Dáil rap

The committee on members’ interests has recommended a review of legislation after it was unable to proceed with an inquiry into the Wexford TD. It said his under-declaration of Vat in 2008 and 2009 took place before he was elected to the Dáil and therefore it had no jurisdiction to investigate it.

The committee was “unable to determine its jurisdiction” to investigate the settlement agreed with the Revenue Commissioners as Mr Wallace refused to tell them when it was reached. Mr Wallace only said the tax under-declaration took place before his tenure as a TD.
