Ulster Bank has been told to waive all customer charges until Christmas in a petition handed into its chief executive, Jim Brown, by a group of politicians.

Seventy-three TDs and senators from all parties signed the petition calling for the gesture in recognition of the “hardship and desperation caused to customers” as a result of a recent IT failure.

The petition was organised by Labour senator, Lorraine Higgins, who said such a strong message from a significant number of politicians should be “an important wake-up call” for the bank.
