Pringle to appeal EU rescue fund ruling

Independent TD Thomas Pringle will appeal a High Court ruling which rejected his claim that the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) is unconstitutional and incompatible with EU law.

Ms Justice Mary Laffoy refused yesterday to grant Mr Pringle an injunction restraining the Government from proceeding to ratify the ESM Treaty.

However, she found that an issue arose concerning the implications of the intentions of members of the ESM to ratify the ESM Treaty now, before the actual coming into force next January of the European Council decision.
