Munster legend prepares for the ultimate union

Two months after getting the freedom of his native city of Limerick, rugby star Paul O’Connell will be forming the ultimate rugby union.

Paul and his long-time partner, Emily O’Leary, have announced their engagement.

The couple have a son, Paddy, aged two.

The O’Connell and O’Leary families, led by Paul’s parents, Shelagh and Michael, and Emily’s parents Pat and Keave, held a double celebration earlier this week at the family homes in Drombanna and Clarina. Also there were Emily’s brother, Paul and sisters, Stephanie and Danielle, and Paul’s brothers, Justin and Marcus.

While no date has been fixed, it is believed the couple plan to tie the knot next year. All plans which will have to be put in place so as not to interrupt Paul’s rugby calendar that is likely to include a Lions tour to Australia in June and July of 2013.

Paul and Emily have been going out since 2000. She worked with Murray O’Laoire Architects in Limerick and is now a full-time mother at the couple’s home in Annacotty.
