If the Government is looking for economic advice, maybe it should consult the punter who has lifted €1.2m from Paddy Power in the past few months.

Punter’s haul from bookies hits €1.2m

The bookmakers revealed that the Englishman picked up €1.05m following a €12.50 each-way Lucky 63 at Royal Ascot on Thursday, where five of his selections romped home. If his sixth choice had come in he would have won more, but Paddy Power revealed that the Hampshire-based punter had already won €160,000 earlier in the year when he had each-way bets on the winner of the Grand National, Neptune Collonges, and the US Masters golf victor, Bubba Watson.

The run of luck ended when five of his six selections scored in a Lucky 63, 63 separate bets: six singles, 15 doubles, 20 trebles, 15 fourfolds, six fivefolds and a sixfold accumulator. The five were Reckless Abandon (4/1), Princess Highway (17/2), Colour Vision (6/1), Fast Or Free (6/1), and Energiser (15/2). The 7/2 favourite Gabrial The Great let him down in the last race.
