Cooking by text on the menu for Aga range

Remote control cooking is now a key ingredient in a new range of Aga cookers, thanks to the ingenuity of companies based in Shannon and Limerick.

For generations, the Aga has been associated with traditional home cooked meals, but its launch yesterday of the Aga Total Control electric model, with best-selling author Jilly Cooper on hand, has pushed it to the forefront of smart appliances boasting smart cooking which can be done via a text from your mobile.

Using components and software from Limerick company Action Point and Tekelek in Shannon, the model responds to text commands such as “roasting oven on”, “baking oven on”, “simmering oven on”, “all ovens on” or “all zones off”.

The new Aga component created by Tekelek is built in to the appliance’s computer system. The Aga user can “talk” to the oven using a mobile phone with a system devised by Action Point.

After graduating from UL, John Savage and David Jeffreys set up Action Pont which has its headquarters at the UL campus. The firms plans to increase its workforce from 26 to 69 over the next three years.
