Corrupt ex-councillor’s sentencing adjourned

A former Fine Gael councillor convicted of receiving corrupt payments remained a free man yesterday after his sentencing hearing was adjourned until late June.

Fred Forsey, aged 43, of Coolagh Rd, Dungarvan, Co Waterford, was last week found guilty of six charges relating to the receipt of €80,000 in corrupt payments from a property developer in Aug, Oct, and Dec 2006.

Following the unanimous guilty verdicts after an eight-day trial, he was due to be sentenced yesterday at Waterford Circuit Court.
