Average earnings in private sector ‘have not fallen’

Average earnings across the private sector have not fallen in spite of the recession, research has found.

The study by the ESRI found that instead of cutting staff wages, companies were opting to cut employment, hours, and non-wage remuneration in order to achieve reductions in labour costs.

It found that approach was in keeping with international trends.
