The Department of Agriculture believes a mild form of bird flu found in pheasants in West Cork has not spread.

Around 100 pheasants were slaughtered last week near Clonakilty after it was suspected they might have the virulent H5NI strain.

The pheasants had been imported from Britain, but tests showed that, while they had Avian Influenza, it was a very low pathogenic strain of the virus and not the H5NI strain.
