The Government’s insurance levy, a rise in burglaries, and last October’s flash floods have forced home insurance prices up by 3% in just 12 months.

Figures detailed by AA Ireland shows the triple hit is pushing already cash-strapped house owners’ finances even more into the red.

The survey shows the cost of home insurance is on average 3% higher today than it was this time last year, the equivalent of a €16 rise.
