Thousands of pensioners are set to receive refunds in the coming weeks following mistaken deductions by Revenue during a tax clampdown.

Some 20,000 pensioners will begin getting the reimbursement payments from Revenue after amounts were deducted from their work pensions through their former employees.

In January, Revenue chairwoman Josephine Feehily apologised for causing confusion and distress to pensioners who received letters in December stating they might be liable for unpaid taxes.
