The eagle-eyed fisherman who plucked a wedding ring from the river Lee last week got a free eye test yesterday.

Not that Pat O’Flaherty needed it or anything. It was just Specsavers’ way of saying thanks to him for the free publicity they got last week thanks to his unusual catch.

Pat, 75, from Glasheen in Cork, found a man’s gold wedding band, complete with red box, in the river Lee last week. It has been valued at €400.
