The number of parents emphasising the long-term value of maths to their children when it comes to their future career prospects has almost doubled in less than a year.

In yet another sign of the recession, a new Engineers Ireland survey has said that more than 93% of 400 parents asked are making their children aware of the need to concentrate on subjects which will improve their chances of gaining employment.

The study findings, released today as part of Engineers Week 2012, are almost double the 50% rate recorded just one year ago.
