Man critical after late-night assault in Thurles

A man was fighting for his life last night after an assault in the centre of Thurles in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It is understood the victim, aged 25 and from the Johnstown area of Tipperary, was standing on Liberty Square in Thurles at 1.30am when he was struck in the head by another man.

He fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement.
