Wedding event to Raleigh local businesses
The Walter Raleigh Hotel in Youghal is running the offer in conjunction with 16 other local businesses and not only will the winner get a free reception for up to 100 guests, he will also get €1,000 towards the honeymoon.
Applicants will first enter a draw from which 12 will be randomly selected in a public promotion night at the hotel.
The field will then be reduced to six contestants through private interviews conducted by a panel of local business people.
These six will have several weeks to purchase their wedding requirements from local participating businesses before presenting their efforts to the public.
There could be some pitfalls, as each groom-to-be is charged with selecting dresses for his bride and her bridesmaids, while strictly avoiding advice from the intended wearers.
He will also select the attire for his future mother- in-law and chose the accessories to accompany these selections, while arranging for the cake, booking the car, photographers, church, celebrant and so on.
Walter Raleigh general manager Brian Greene encourages the six to be as creative as they wish.
“They must commit to shopping from the local business participants for the occasion,” he said.
Models will parade the chosen outfits across three monthly heats in which two contests per heat will make presentations and — assuming they survive any fashion show retribution — will perform party pieces.
Participating traders will also display their wares. Finally, on a gala night in autumn, the six will present their projects en masse before two celebrity judges.
Mr Greene, who manages the 110-year-old hotel for Atlantic Hospitality Services (AHS), says the idea is “a fun way of promoting the local economy. We hope the general public will support and enjoy the venture too.”
Application forms are available now from the Walter Raleigh or by post. Call 024 92011.
