Towns’ €23m smart transport boost

Three Irish towns and cities have been branded “smarter travel destination areas” after beating off competition to receive a €23m investment in sustainable transport.

Limerick, Dungarvan in Co Waterford and Westport in Co Mayo were yesterday confirmed as the three centres selected from 39 applications for funding.

Alan Kelly, the public and commuter transport minister, said the initiative would see the residents of the three locations being encouraged to switch to more sustainable forms of transport over the next five years.
