Will love bloom in the aisles this Valentine’s Day?
In keeping with its motto of ‘Every little helps’, the supermarket giant is offering a helping hand to the unlucky in love before St Valentine’s Day — that special day when every business flogs romance for money.
With the novelty title ‘Love in the Aisles’, the Tesco store in Cabra, Dublin, will host an “exclusive” singles night on the eve of St Valentine’s Day.
Love in the Aisles, will take the format of a speed dating, but, rather ominously, one “with a twist”.
Promising to be “Ireland’s most romantic supermarket” on the night, which can’t be too hard a task in fairness,
Tesco Cabra will transformed with music, champagne, chocolate tasting and much more. There are 40 “exclusive” places for those looking for love and spaces will be snapped up quickly.
Those lucky enough to nab a spot will be sent on missions around the store to find products which best represent their personalities, while also taking part in a variety of match-making games.
The most compatible couple will win a romantic dinner for two to the value of €200 on St Valentine’s Night in top Dublin restaurant, Pichet, run by Nick Munier of Masterchef fame.
Those who don’t find a date in Tesco can take solace in the fact that every entrant receives a Valentine’s goodie bag to take home — alone.
Tesco Cabra manager Martyn Saunders said the event was the first of its kind in the store and hoped romance might spark on the shop floor.
“We are delighted to be hosting our very first singles shopping event of the century at Tesco Cabra and we hope our customers will have fun with all of the in-store activities we have planned. Despite the credit crunch, we are committed to keeping love alive and look forward to romance blossoming in our aisles,” he said.
Participants must be over 18-years-old and can enter in Tesco Cabra or through Q102’s The Love Zone with Debbie Allen from Feb 6.
