Criteria changes leave new retirees facing state pension cut

Changes to state pension entitlements are to leave new retirees out of pocket from later this year.

Employees will have to work longer or retire on less and, for many caught out by the changes, it will be too late to make provision for the fall in income.

Age Action warned that new qualification criteria for the contributory state pension would leave some pensioners up to €30 short a week from September.
