A TOTAL of 23 jobs are under threat and the award-winning National Disabled Angling Park could be closed to the public after Fás cut funding by two-thirds to its community employment (CE) scheme.

SIPTU yesterday expressed anger at the Department of Social Protection for not stopping the closure — even though Minister Joan Burton had said no CE jobs would be lost while she undertook a review of the schemes.

SIPTU warned of “thousands of jobs losses around the country, making the Dell closure look small” if such CE schemes are not protected.
