EMBATTLED Revenue chiefs have apologised for the pension letter controversy after the Government laid the blame for the fiasco solely at their door.

Appearing before an Oireachtas committee on the issue, Revenue chairwoman Josephine Feehily apologised for causing confusion and distress to pensioners who received letters stating they might be liable for unpaid taxes.

It came as Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Government firmly washed their hands of the issue and insisted Revenue was to blame.
