Two to stand trial in May over murder of Michaela Harte

THE trial of two men accused of murdering Michaela Harte will start on May 22.

Avinash Treebhowoon, 29, and Sandip Mooneea, 41, are both expected to plead not guilty.

The trial comes a year after Ms Harte was killed in the Legends Hotel on the island of Mauritius, where she was on honeymoon with John McAreavey.

Yesterday, the defence asked for the trial to start on February 2, but Medhi Choonee, appearing for the prosecution, told the court that “it was too short notice” since he had other professional obligations during that time.

The trial is expected to last 10 days.
