DRILLING works on the massive N25 road project in Cork are being extended to seven days a week.

Seven-day drilling plan for flyover projects

Engineers overseeing the construction of two flyovers on the city’s busy ring road also announced plans last night to start installing beams for the first flyover next week. This work will be done overnight to minimise disruption to traffic.

In their latest update on the €60 million initiative to build flyovers at both the Bandon and Sarsfield Road roundabouts, engineers said they intended to extend the working hours on the project from this weekend to ensure they hit their July 2013 completion date.

From Sunday, drilling works in the area south of the N25 will be extended to a seven-day working week until they are finished.

Engineers said there would be no disruption to traffic as a result of these works.

They will also start placing the bridge beams for the western span of the flyover the Bandon Road roundabout next Monday.

The work, which is expected to take four nights, will start at 11pm with the road to be fully re-opened by 6am.

Traffic approaching the Bandon Road roundabout from the Ballincollig bypass will be diverted via the Curraheen Road.

Meanwhile, building work is expected to concentrate on the Sarsfield Road roundabout area over the coming weeks.

Works will include construction of a revised roundabout layout, construction of an over-bridge, the installation of new culverts under the existing and proposed road, and reinforced earth wall construction.

Minor restrictions and partial road closures will be required from time to time and details of these traffic management proposals will be issued.
