Judges opting out of pension levy

A DECISION by nearly one third of sitting judges to stop paying the voluntary pension levy has been deemed disappointing and a let-down for their profession.

Data released by the Revenue Commissioners this week showed that just 88 judges made voluntary payments last year, a reduction of 38 from the 126 who did the previous year.

The move to save the cost of their wages but also, therefore, to reduce the amount going to the Exchequer was criticised by Fianna Fáil yesterday.
