Child benefit suspended in 6,000 cases

NEARLY 6,000 parents have had their child benefit suspended by the Department of Social Protection.

The suspensions follow checks on 63,000 recipients, and a review of a further 35,000 people in the spring could see more parents having their payments halted.

The department said the measures were part of an annual review of child benefit recipients and that an estimated 300,000 people were checked every year.
