IRELAND’s low corporate tax regime will come under renewed threat if France and Germany are allowed “run the show” under the proposed new deal to strengthen euro governance, Micheál Martin has warned.

The Fianna Fáil leader said he had deep concerns about the prospect of allowing “certain European leaders who are pursuing narrow national objectives to rule the roost”.

The new deal, or “fiscal compact”, is being drawn up to develop closer co-ordination of economic policies within the eurozone and attempt to end the debt crisis affecting EU states.
