STRUGGLING retailers are considering starting their sales next week in a bid to boost ailing demand.

According to the Christmas trading statement from Retail Excellence Ireland (REI), while early December sales were up against the snow ravaged period last year, the past week has been quiet, with many retailers returning to December 2010 trading figures.

As a result, “deeply concerned” retailers are considering entering the sale period next week in advance of Christmas.
